The Process (What to do)

Teacher notes:

Students will need to know how to scroll in windows in order to read the selected materials. They will also need to know how to click on links and to use the "Back" button on the toolbar. Students may want to work in pairs.

As a group, you may want to use the Mesozoic Era chart listed in the menu to have students learn about the three periods of this era in which dinosaurs lived. Also the links to Extinction, Fossils and Dino fun (riddles) would be great fun as a group.

After students gather their information, you will want to have a group discussion about how these dinosaurs are alike in some ways and different in others. It may be helpful to have students print and color the pictures so that dinosaurs could be grouped on a bulletin board by movement, food, size, or time period in which they lived.

You may want to list the following words somewhere in your classroom for discussion.

diet locomotion bipedal quadrapedal
fossils carnivores herbivores prehistoric
extinct

Conclusion:

Upon completion of this project, the students will be able to classify dinosaurs according to characteristics and will be able to discuss how life has changed since prehistoric time.
