Instruct students to sort their cards into categories or groups based upon the relationships which they think exist between the terms. 5. After the cards are sorted, instruct students to create labels for their card groupings. 6. Have groups present their groupings and labels, providing a justification for each. |

Challenge Envelopes 1. Divide the class into small groups to discuss unit, for example: -what are two words that start with bio-? -what are two words that have graph as a root? -what does miss mean? -Give two examples of co-. -What does tele- mean? 2. Give each group of students an envelope. 3. Have each group write a challenge questions on the freont of the envelope. Encourage higher level questions that have prompts like: - What might be...? - What could be...? - What if...? 4. Have each group generate the answer or criteria for a response and include a sample response. These should all be placed inside the envelope. 5. Rotate the envelopes throughout the class. When a group receives an envelope, the question is to be addressed and then the group should decide on one overall answer. 6. Have each group put their own response to the question inside the envelop when they are done. They should then send the envelope back into circulation (teacher determines a time limit for answering questions). 7. As the envelopes begin to fill with responses, the groups are to compare their responses to the others that are in the envelopes. |
