Cells Alive!

This fascinating web site allows the viewer to explore the world of microbes. Learn about plant and animal cells, bacteria and viruses and how these organisms interact with other living things. Facts are illustrated with photos, diagrams and animations. Cell cams show "real-time" growth of cultured cells. An alphabetized index and a search engine are available to assist the user in finding on site information.

 

HHMI BioInteractive

Interactive "shockwave" simulations allow the user to participate in interactive learning modules, such as identifying bacteria based on its DNA, examining heart patients, or watching bacteria invade. The virtual museum focuses on heart disease and the senses. The virtual labs are available free for classrooms on CD's and can be ordered at the web site.

 

The Biology Project - University of Arizona

The Biology Project is an online interactive resource for high school and college students who are learning biology. Topics include: Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Chemicals and Human Health, Human Biology, Immunology, Mendelian Genetics and Molecular Biology. (Some topics are also available in Spanish.) Each topic has problems that are linked to tutorials, should one enter the incorrect answer. Interactive activities and web resources are also available.

The National Audubon Society provides this site with online access to eNature Field Guides, Habitat Guides, discussion boards and online email access to an expert in the field. Over 4,800 North American plants and animals are included in the guides. Audio of bird songs and calls can also be accessed. A search engine for the site is available.

 

The Living Edens

The PBS special on the Living Edens is expanded at this web site. Learn about the flora and fauna from many magical and unique biomes around the world.

An online companion to the Addison and Wesley text, this site offers links to web resources. Topics included are: cells, genetics, change and diversity, plants, animals, human biology, and organisms and the environment.

The Human Body Online

Choose any of 10 body systems to explore. Move your mouse over an image and "Pick Point" will appear. When the mouse is over a Pick Point, a label for that part pops up. Click the label to learn more about the part. Some labels also have an eye glass which can be clicked for an enlarged image of the body part.

 

A Guided Tour of the Visible Human

Explore a large variety of animated views of different sections of the human body. The Visible Human Project has generated thousands of digitalized sections of body. Samples of these images are included in this tour to demonstrate planes of section and other introductory concepts in anatomy.

 

The Virtual Hospital Illustrated Encyclopedia of Human Anatomic Variation
