Introduction:

Students will travel to South America via web sites and discover facts about one of the countries including the geography, current money conversion and today's weather. They will then present this information to their classmates using a poster that they have made.

The Task:

With a partner you will gather information on a country in South America. You will have an opportunity to present this information to your classmates and compare and contrast the information with the same data on other countries that your classmates have gathered using a spreadsheet and graphs.

  1. Work in pairs.
  2. Use one computer.
  3. Job Assignments: One person drives the computer. The other person records information on paper or on the map. Pairs rotate after each question.
  4. Help each other read.
  5. Good Luck and have fun!

Students will compare and contrast information gathered about the countries in South America.

In the classroom:

Now that you have researched this South American country, you will design a poster on your country and include the information on it. Don't forget to use pictures. Make a presentation to the class using the poster.

Optional: Students enter their information in one class database. This information could then be used by members of the class to make graphs comparing the different countries researched.

Evaluation:

Student's work will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Work is done cooperatively. Each student contributes and time is spent on task.

Work is completed on time.

Written work is neatly done.

Spelling and grammar are correct.

Information is accurate.

Information is appropriate.

Presentation is informative and well planned.

Conclusion:

Students will use the information that they gathered to make a poster about their country and will then make a presentation to the class using the poster.

Teacher Advice: Students should have a good mastery of an Internet browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape prior to this project.
